H-Day

...minus 5 days and counting

Ian and the family are headed to Dallas this weekend. We'll finally get to see and hold Henry Adam, the miracle baby. Can't wait.

every time I look down at my arms, there seems to be a little Henry-shaped space there, just waiting. Only problem I see coming is whether it's me or Donna that gets to the door first. I may be a grandfather, but I think I can out run her!

Blessings,
Ken

Time Really Flies

...especially as I get older

Thirty-one years ago today, almost at this hour, our second son was born at Seton Hospital in Austin. Never forget being at work that afternoon and getting the call from Donna that her water broke. At that time I was working in a car dealership in Austin and as I ran out the door the first car I came to with keys in it belonged to the owner of the dealership. I jumped in and took off, hoping he'd forgive me under the circumstances.

Ian was a little early and was born by c-section but he came out healthy and hungry, two things that haven't changed much in 31 years. As I look at him now, with two sons of his own, it's hard to remember him as a newborn. Because of the c-section and because he was early, we had to celebrate Christmas in the hospital room that year. Best Christmas gift I ever got.

Happy Birthday, son. I love you.

Blessings,
Dad
p.s. The owner of the car dealership did forgive me.

Yuletide Cheer

...and a couple of tears

TLBW and I went caroling tonight along with a dozen or so other members of our homeowner's association. Beautiful night, stars out, no wind. Perfect. One of our members had made a list of those in the neighborhood who can't get out due to illness or other reasons. What a joy to see the doors open and smiles light up brighter than the Christmas lights out front!

The one that will stay in my mind for a while is an 80-something lady with a sweet countenance who came to the door in a gown. We had been told that she'd recently had a fall, plus she's in the early stages of Alzheimers. As we sang our songs, tears rolled down her cheeks across the wrinkles and onto the smile she had for us. Have to admit that part way into the second song the words faltered a bit, mainly due to the lump in my throat. As we turned to go I noticed I wasn't the only one with watery eyes.

I don't even know her name and I imagine she doesn't realize how those tears and her smile brightened our lives tonight. I give thanks to God that out of close to a thousand homes in the neighborhood, He let us go to hers.

Blessings,
Ken

Keeping Up With My Couples

...Justin & Ashley show off their new arrival.

At a wedding rehearsal the other night, I ran into a couple whose ceremony I officiated last year. They were proud to show off their new arrival, Aidan, who not only slept through the rehearsal, but the next night slept through the ceremony as well. Didn't make a peep, sound asleep. Hmm, maybe I just have that effect on people.

Anyway, here's a quick pic I snapped with my phone.

Blessings,
Ken
