Walking Tall

...or not

At a recent wedding in Flower Mound, the guests and the photographer got a chuckle out of this picture. Even standing on the small stage, I could not look the two bridesmaids in the eye. I'm 5'8". Wilma is 6'4", Yveta is 6'2", and they were both wearing heels.

Hook 'Em Henry

...never too young to be a Longhorn

Doesn't really need much explanation. Not even two days old and Henry is dressed in the right colors, watching the 'Horns open a can of whoopass on Missou.

HE'S HERE!!

...Henry Adam meets the world

God is good.

Henry Adam Byrd was delivered by c-section this morning. Five pounds, 3.5 ounces. He started crying as soon as he was out. He's breathing on his own and has already had a bottle. Alyssa was awake during delivery so she got to experience his first cry, sweet sounds of relief.

So far, no breathing tubes, but he'll still be in the NICU for a time. Alyssa is in good spirts; Ian is bouncing off the walls. I can't stop grinning.

Appropriately, the first phone call and picture went to Henry's big brother, Liam.

Did I mention I can't stop grinning?

Blessings,
Ken a/k/a Granddaddy Byrd

Baby Watch

...less than twelve hours to go

Just under twelve hours from now, Henry Adam Byrd will be delivered into the world after spending less than 34 weeks in preparation. I cannot begin to fathom the feelings and pressures that Ian and Alyssa are under.

I do know this: my son and his wife are among the two strongest and faithful human beings on the planet. How many of us would willingly take this step of faith to bring a child into the world, especially given the events of the last two years?

This picture, taken just a few days ago at the hospital by our friend Amy, is so descriptive. Alyssa, very pregnant and so beautiful, cradling Henry, with the footprint of Sydney Grace forever on her own foot.

I can't help but wonder what wonderful things are in store for Henry.

Liam Loves His Little Bro

...and Henry learns to pout

Liam got to see Lyss in the hospital today, which I'm sure is a comfort to mother and child. Here's a pic of Liam giving his little brother a hug. If you aren't sure what you're seeing, just look for the belly button :)

During the latest ultrasound the technician had to give Henry a little zap to get him to cooperate and turn. Evidently, he didn't like it as the picture clearly shows a pout on his face. Amazing the detail you can see. BTW, don't worry about the shadow at the top--his head really is there!

My thanks to Lyss for the constant updates, pix and Facebook posts. In this case, having the internet is the next best thing to being there.

Blessings,
Ken

Baby Watch

...two weeks or less

Good ultra sound and Henry Adam looks great. Lyss was admitted to the hospital today as a precaution. This is really a relief and a comfort that she'll be so close to monitoring and medical care.

Now, we wait. Sometime in the next 14 days, Henry will greet the outside world.

Ken
